INTEGRAL LIFE FOUNDATION INITIATES SURVEY

LEAWOOD, KAN-(Jan. 14, 2009)- Brad Gautney, Medical Operations Director of the Integral Life Foundation (ILF), returned from Haiti this week where he, along with two colleagues from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, surveyed HIV positive mothers and HIV staff members in three hospitals where ILF manages the Early-Infant Diagnoses program for HIV perinatally exposed infants. The survey was designed to gather data on the feeding practices of HIV positive mothers and their infants. This information will give ILF, the hospitals and HIV positive mother's insight on how to decrease the risk of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, as well as providing a culturally appropriate option of infant feeding that provides sufficient nutrition. Upon completion of the surveys, all data will be analyzed and discussed with the hospitals, their patients, as well as other partners in Haiti, to improve current feeding practices on a broad scale.
